Stiftsbibliothek Melk: HMML Repository

Stiftsbibliothek Melk

This Benedictine abbey, founded in 976, possesses a large manuscript collection which has fortunately survived three fires (1297, 1682, 1738). A monastic school flourished at Melk as early as the 12th c., and during the 15th and 16th c. the Abbey was a branch of the University of Vienna. HMML filmed 1108 manuscripts dating from the 9th to the 17th c. (and a few from the 18th c.) at Melk.
