Wayne Torborg

Wayne Torborg is the Director of Digital Collections & Imaging, a position he has held since he joined HMML in 2004. His team is responsible for storage, archiving, and backup of all digital data; digitizing microfilm, books, and art; preparing images for the online Reading Room; and database support for its MySQL server and HMML’s legacy database. He supervises the technical aspects of all digitization projects, specifying equipment, methods, and producing documentation. His roles find him working with a number of internal teams, including manuscript cataloging, digital platform development, field operations directors, and advancement.

Before joining HMML, Torborg produced traditional and digital photography for advertising and marketing clients through his own business and with Colormax, Paynesville, MN. One of his most significant projects was the digitization of The Saint John’s Bible. He holds a BS in Mass Communications from St. Cloud State University.

What he appreciates about his work: “Cultural preservation is rewarding. Doing something that has long-term benefit for society is interesting and worthwhile.”
