265 manuscripts from Fondacije Meyli in Kaćuni, Bosnia and Herzegovina, are now available in Reading Room
Posted: 2026-03-24Cataloging is complete for 265 manuscripts from the Meyli Foundation (Fondacije Meyli, HMML project code FMRZ), a cultural organization in Kaćuni, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The majority of the collection is Ottoman-era devotional literature in Arabic, Turkish, and a considerable amount of vernacular Bosnian, with a few examples of Persian. In addition to devotional literature, there are texts on subjects such as grammar, law, theology, and the history and practices of various Sufi orders. Dated objects in the collection range from an Arabic commentary on Ḥanafī law copied in 1381 CE (FMRZ 00206) to a trilingual Sufi hymnal from 1959 (FMRZ 00086). There are numerous elaborately decorated Qurʼans and other manuscripts. This collection contains a wealth of information on the religious practices of Ottoman and post-Ottoman Bosnia. View now
