Early Modern Europe: HMML Special Collections

Early Modern Europe

The resources in the Special Collections at HMML enhance the study of European history and culture through access to original documents and contemporary publications from the 15th to the 19th centuries. Look to these resources to study a specific language or political area (e.g., Spain, France, England, Germany, Italy), period (e.g., the Reformation, Baroque, Enlightenment), or trends and innovations (e.g., science and medicine, travel, etc.). Accordingly, use this subject area handlist in conjunction with those on Bibles, Early Print and Fine Press, Classics and Antiquity, or Early Modern England.

While most of the materials listed here are from the print collections, there are extensive relevant holdings in manuscripts, as well. Many individual manuscripts may be found on the handlist for Global Manuscript Studies. Listed here are larger collections that sometimes combine manuscripts, archival documents, and printed works—all of which complement the printed book collections to provide a fuller account of Early Modern Europe.
