Addis Ababa University. Institute of Ethiopian Studies - HMML Repository
Addis Ababa University. Institute of Ethiopian Studies
Founded in 1963 on the campus of Addis Ababa University, the Institute of Ethiopian Studies houses the world's largest single collection of Ethiopian manuscripts, comprised of numerous Ge'ez and Amharic codices, hundreds of items in Arabic, and considerable material in many other indigenous and foreign languages. Subsequent to the microfilming of approximately 260 principally Christian volumes in the 1970s, the entire manuscript fonds, including archival material, was digitized by the Ethiopian Manuscript Imaging Project (EMIP) between 2008-2010, an endeavour initially undertaken with funding from HMML and later from the British Library Endangered Archives Programme.
