Historisches Archiv der Stadt Köln - HMML Repository

Historisches Archiv der Stadt Köln

The Historical Archive of the City of Cologne is one of the largest collections filmed by HMML in Germany, with nearly 1300 manuscripts filmed, dating from the 6th to the 19th c. The archive holds a very diverse collection, including theological, liturgical, and legal manuscripts, as well as historical works both in Latin and in German. Over 300 medieval manuscripts from the collections of Ferdinand Franz Wallraf (1748-1824) are included in the materials from the archive. In March 2009, the Historical Archive building (opened 1971) suffered a catastrophic collapse which buried all of its collections. These collections have since been excavated and moved to safety; however, the restoration of the materials will still take several years. Construction on a new building continues with a possible opening in 2021.
