Ottakath Family Archives

The Ottakath Family Archives constitute one of the most significant archival collections in Malabar. The materials are dispersed across multiple residences belonging to members of the family. The archive comprises a rich collection of Arabic, Arabi-Malayalam, and Malayalam manuscripts—both illustrated and non-illustrated—as well as rare books featuring marginalia from diverse users across different historical periods. The collection dates back to the nineteenth century. This project, in partnership with the Malaibar Foundation for Research and Development, aims to digitize the collections housed in these multiple residences, ensuring their preservation and accessibility.
