The Monastery and the Library, with its large number of manuscripts, were burned down by Tito's partisans on February 21, 1942, but the Library was rebuilt in 1957. However, during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1993, Muslim soldiers expelled the Franciscans from the Monastery and moved the Library to a nearby village. After the war, the friars returned the books to the Monastery, but the most valuable ones were missing (lexicons, valuable serial publications, etc.). With the help of other Franciscan libraries in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, as well as gifts from various European countries, the Library was "revived" and now contains around 17,000 titles, along with a large number of various periodicals.
